I was invited to a networking/business event by a friend of mine. She had invited me several times to join her but I’d never could accept it. This time it has started out the same way. When she told me about this event, I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to go or not. However, didn’t say no. A little voice within me said, not to rush my decision. Just say the truth, which was: ‘I don’t know whether I can make it or not. Don’t want to say yes, then go back on my promise. I can let you know the final answer only closer to the date.’
The truth is, I had another event to be at on the same day. It was a practice group for those who are familiar with the neuro-linguistic programming. I enjoy these events, as I always learn something new. However, this time I wasn’t sure that my place would be in this practice group. My intuition was telling me otherwise.
So, on the day of the event, I texted my friend that I’d come with her if that was still possible. I had a gut feeling that I need to go to this business event. I need to go there to hear something.
Have you ever had a feeling that you need to be at a certain place, but you can’t explain reasonably why.
Life is happening whether we are ready or not. By letting go of control and always knowing the outcomes of our actions, we lean into the wonders of ‘unexpected’ happenings in our life. I wouldn’t tell you to believe in your own creative powers because you would have millions of reason why not to.
All I ask of you is to play with the idea of what would it feel like to know that we can change the experience. How? By changing our attitude and looking at things with the attitude of ‘What is this situation telling me? How is this enriching my life?’ The answer can be as simple as ‘It feels good to be here…..’

So, I went to this event, though I wasn’t interested in joining the scheme they offered, and wanted to leave half way through the evening. Then, a little voice inside said, change your attitude. Look at this evening through a different set of glasses.
This made the trick for me. I put on my ‘student glasses’ and started my quest to find out what it is that this evening is giving me. There must be something. Therefore I decided to stay for the second half of the evening. And what a wise decision it was.
So, I went to this event, though I wasn’t interested in joining the scheme they offered, and wanted to leave half way through the evening. Then, a little voice inside said, change your attitude. Look at this evening through a different set of glasses.
The second part of the evening was the time for two amazing ladies from the USA who’ve achieved great success in this business to talk about their journey. Ann and Artemis were radiating very positive energy. Despite their success Ann and Artemis were humble and down to earth, answering any questions the audience might have had and they were happy to share their secret.
And the lightbulb moment has arrived when Artemis said the following:
“If you think you can’t achieve what you want and dream of. You are right. The person who you are at this moment can’t. BUT the person who you need to become to achieve what you want, CAN. How committed are you to become the person you need to be? “
In this world of instant gratification, we want to see the results straight away. As much as we want the results now, we aren’t committed enough to take the journey (in most cases).
We just not follow through. Does this sound familiar?
I am guilty as charged. As life had been sending some curveballs my way lately, I needed a reminder. We all need it sometimes. A reminder that I am the only one who can make a difference in my life. You are writing your own story!
But how to do it?
- Take a deep breath and ask yourself – Is this really what I WANT to do or I am trying to fulfil a dream/goal imposed on me? (this can be by another person, or a company, or society….) The motivation to achieve comes from outside you. Not from within. There isn’t anything wrong with stopping along the way toe recalibrate ourselves. (a toredo does the same to hit its target.
- Now, think of one project/goal you’d like to achieve.
- Take a sheet of paper and write down what qualities, actions you need to take in order to achieve it. And most importantly imagine what it will fee like to have that dream materialized.
Remember, there isn’t anything wrong with moving slowly. As long as you are moving, it is going to work.
So, how committed are you to become the person you need to be to create your dream life?
Recap:
- Cultivate an attitude of a student, so your mind is always open to novelty
- Instead of what should I do, ask ‘How can I make this happen?’
- Stop to recalibrate when you need to.
